Whitby Ringette tryout information for the 2008/09 season.

Age Divisions:

1989                            Open

1990, 1991, 1992        Belle

1993-94                       Junior

1995-96                       Tween

1997-98                       Petite

1999-2000                   Novice

Whitby Ringette’s preference is to have all girls playing at their own age level.  There have been exceptions made to this and the WRA will look at each case individually and make recommendations according to individual circumstances, but as a general rule, if a player is trying out for a division higher than their age group, they must make the AA team[1].

Tryouts Procedures

1.         All players will be asked upon arrival whether they are a Whitby player or Whitby property; if not, a SIGNED Player Tryout form[2] MUST be provided prior to stepping on to the ice.  Forms may be found on the ORA website, Operating Manual, Forms/Appendices section, Membership Services section, form M-F-07.  Link to website:

http://www.ontario-ringette.com/administration/forms.php?sub=administration.

2.         All players are required to pay $10 per tryout.  Players will not be allowed into the arena area until payment has been received.  One Executive member will be present during the sign-in process for each division.

3.         Novice B division will be delegated Novice "B" only.  Players attending the tryouts will be evaluated by a third party and ranked accordingly.  Coaches and evaluators will then divide the players into two teams as evenly as possible with no "minor"/"major" designation.  On a yearly basis, it will be decided whether to field 1 or 2 Novice B teams, based on numbers and calibre of players during try-outs.

4.         All existing (2007/2008) "A" and "AA" players must begin at the AA level in their respective divisions.  Players not wishing to attend the AA tryouts, must complete a "AA exemption form" (attached) and submit this form to the President of WRA at least 5 days prior to the tryout[3].  This exemption will be reviewed by the Executive and the player will be advised whether the exemption will be granted.

5.         If a player misses a tryout and makes an A or AA team, the player is required to pay the full $30.

6.         All existing (2007/2008) B and C players will be able to attend tryouts at either A or AA and are not required to seek an exemption.

7.         "AA" coaches will be announced at the first AA tryout, "A" coaches will be announced at the first A tryout and Novice B coach(s) will be announced at the first Novice B tryout.

8.         Petite B, Tween B, Junior B and Belle B coaches will be announced after the AA and A tryouts.

9.         Tryouts for Petite B, Tween B, Junior B and Belle will occur in September, 2008.

10.       Coaches, bench staff and executive members who contact players and/or parents prior to the try-outs to discuss admittance to the team[4], attendance at try-outs, slanderous remarks regarding coaches selected or disclose the coaches selected or selection process will be dismissed from the team and/or the executive immediately.
